Chapter 6: Station Setup

Chapter 6: Station Setup #

Illustration of a ham radio station setup

A ham station is where all the physics from Part 1 becomes something you can plug in, tune up, and talk through. It can be as simple as a handheld radio with a rubber duck antenna or as involved as a rack of gear with multiple antennas and a dedicated shack. Either way, getting the pieces connected correctly — and knowing what to do when something doesn’t work — is the difference between having a radio and being on the air.

Many new hams get licensed, buy a radio, and then stall out trying to figure out how to actually use the thing. This chapter is about closing that gap.
