Past chapters have covered how radio works, how to set up a station, and how to do all of that safely. This is the chapter where you put it to work. From everyday FM conversations on local repeaters to long-distance HF contacts during 10-meter band openings, from public service nets to bouncing signals off a satellite, a Technician has a wide range of activities available.

Much of what’s covered here is convention rather than regulation — the way hams have agreed to operate so everyone can share the airwaves effectively. The full treatment of FCC rules is the next chapter.
